JTT is pleased to present Mischief, Sam McKinniss’s second solo show with the gallery.

I thought I would compile something like an abbreviated photo album for the confusion and rage I held as a closeted teenager. These paintings do not derive from any specific memory belonging to me, however. Their subject matter is the looted booty of a thieving imagination at liberty, rendered as a process of coming to grips.

Sam McKinniss (b. 1985, Northfield, MN) lives and works in New York and Connecticut. Recent solo shows include “Costume Drama” at the Ovitz Family Collection in Los Angeles (2021), “Country Western” at Almine Rech in London (2021), “Jonathan Taylor Thomas” at JTT in New York (2020), “Neverland” (2019) at Almine Rech Gallery in Brussels, “Daisy Chain” (2018) at Team (Bungalow) in Los Angeles, and “Egyptian Violet” (2016) at Team Gallery in New York. His work has been exhibited in numerous group shows including at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles, Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA, Gladstone Gallery in New York, Sadie Coles HQ in London.
