While the grid has been granted a dominant position in the art historical canon as a modernist structure, the curve has long been associated with ornament and flourish. JTT presents a group exhibition featuring artists engaging with one or both of these formal components as a starting point for a range of non-representational expressions of subjectivity. On view are works that span several generations ranging from the 60s and 70s to 2022. Collectively they challenge these longstanding associations, rather acknowledging the grid’s expansive capacities for strategies of repetition and ritual, and as the underlying framework for curves and patternmaking.
